We invite you to share what we consider to be a unique way of life and enjoy the wildlife on nature walks, game drives and horseback trails.  Take pleasure in the landscape and panoramic views from the tranquillity of the Lapa.  Activities may be arranged prior to arrival or after checking in for your stay.

Game Drives

Our reserve boasts more than 50 wildlife species, made up of a combination of mammals, reptiles and amphibians.  Guests may enjoy day and/or night drives in an open game drive vehicle.  The best time for game viewing is early morning and late afternoon, as wild animals usually bed down during the heat of the day.

Horse Trails

Early morning, late afternoon and moonlight rides (during full moon only) are tailored to suit guests’ horsemanship.  Experienced staff accompany all rides and first time riders are welcome.  Enjoy an hour or more (depending on your riding skills) in the Bushveld on well-schooled horses, suitable for all levels of horsemanship.

Guided Bush Walks

These walks are focussed on both the fauna and flora on the reserve.  Learn about medicinal values of plants and trees as used by the locals, or simply enjoy being out in Nature.  Trail distances are tailored to suit individual guests.  Game may be stalked and viewed at close range and an abundance of bird varieties all adds to the experience of being at one with nature.  Guests are guided by knowledgeable staff who will open up a new world to you.

Bird Watching

The diversity of habitat at Mafigeni makes it a premier bird watching area.  More than 365 bird species have been recorded in the area.  For your convenience, a card listing the most common birds is available to take with you on your bird watching excursion.

Rhino Tracking

Tracking rhino puts you on the search of one of the largest animals on the planet, but one that can be effectively tracked and approached to a good viewing distance – truly an exhilarating experience.  Walking though the bush is a completely different experience than game viewing from a vehicle as it allows you to move slowly and observe the smaller life all around you, creating a different type of connection with nature.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

If you would like to experience the thrill of firing a rifle, without harming an animal, then clay pigeon shooting is for you.  Test your accuracy with a 12-gauge shotgun or a more accurate rifle and try hit the clay disc as it is launched into the air.  Suitable for young and old and no previous experience is required.  This is a game of skill, using hand-to-eye co-ordination to hit moving targets flying at approximately 120km per hour.  Have fun trying your hand at shooting clays under the guidance of an experienced Professional Hunter.
